Welcome to Twin Leaf Golden Retrievers. We are a small family based breeder with a BIG passion for the English type Golden Retriever. We live in Summerfield, North Carolina in the heart of the Piedmont Triad area. Our Goldens live with our family in our home, not in a kennel.  This wonderful breed is very family oriented and thrives with daily family interaction.
Thank You for visiting our website. Our goal is to produce an English type Golden Retriever which is structurally sound and true to the Golden temperment - loving and loyal. Whether you are looking for a family pet, a hunting companion or a therapy dog this breed is all of these. We hope you enjoy browsing our website, please feel free to contact us with any questions.
OUR JOURNEY

I grew up with a passion for animals of any size or shape and a special love for babies. As a young girl growing up in Florida, I spent many a spring rescuing baby Mourning Doves that had been whipped out of their nest by the wind in a recent hurricane and hand fed them until they were ready to be released back to the wild.
Later on, as I became older, my love was horses. I have fond memories of my horse ”Champagne,” a Morgan-Arabian Palomino following me around the stable like a little puppy dog. I spent hours riding her in my junior and senior years in High School.
I met my husband in the spring of 1995.  Ron also had a soft spot for animals - especially dogs - and he had been involved in dog rescue prior to meeting me. One of our favorite memories of our early years together is when Missy, a Golden Retriever mix, came into our lives when we had only known each other for four short months.

I left my American Golden Retrievers with a past relationship and now found myself dogless. Missy was a stray that showed up with her ribs sticking out and apparently had not eaten in quite a while.  It appears she had also been visited by several male dogs in the area as she was in heat. We rescued and fed her, and looked for her owner to no avail. Ron believed I was supposed to keep her to be my protection and companion.
We took Missy to the vet for a check up only to find out she was heart worm positive, so treatment began for Missy’s heartworms and  all the necessary shots were given to her before taking her home. Two months later we found ourselves whelping Missy’s litter together on my kitchen floor.
Two years later Ron and I were married and moved to a four acre homestead where we began dog rescue since we now we had room to help other homeless dogs. During that time period Ron’s mother became part of our family as well; her health was declining and she needed family close by to help her. Our dogs were a constant source of comfort for her especially since she was not very mobile, and this is where I saw firsthand how animal therapy could really make a difference in someone’s life.  All of our dogs brought joy into Grandma’s life as well as ours!

Fast forward to 16 year later - Missy & her son Gillie lived a long and healthy life with us.  But there was a hard reality to face - that our fur babies had been with us a long time but they would not be with us forever. So we started the search for the perfect breed of dog for our  family.
The Golden retriever was a medium sized dog, both loving and patient. They were originally bred as a hunting companion with a soft mouth to retrieve, pheasant, duck, & other wild game birds and instinctive love for the water. This highly intelligent and versatile breed suits various roles: a guide dog for the blind, a hearing dog for the deaf, a hunting dog and a therapy dog for both children and adults. They are also used in search and rescue and have smelling abilities beyond compare.
But first and foremost, Golden Retrievers make wonderful family pets - people belong to them! This was the breed we chose to love and breed to help preserve for future generations.

Please know that our English Golden Retrievers have been chosen from wonderful pedigree’s of European and Canadian lineage and many have working titles and championships. All of our Dogs have extensive testing done on heart, eyes and hips and must pass these tests with acceptable scores in order to enter our breeding program. Our goal is to preserve and improve through a well thought out breeding program - building on the strengths and strengthening areas that will lead to better health for the future generations.

I belong to the Carolina Dog Training Club where I assist, teach, and also am a board member. All of our own dogs are obedience trained from puppy thru adulthood. I am a member of the Triad Golden Retriever Rescue group, & I frequently help assist the training of volunteers at the Greensboro Animal Shelter in hopes to better the chances of placement for shelter dogs. I am also a member of the American Kennel Club as well.

Tanglewood Line in the Sand “Jessie” has her CGC, Delta Therapy title and currently works in the local elementary schools in “Read with Me” program. Jessie received her International Championship Title on October 30, 2011 - the weekend she turned two years old. We are so proud of this beautiful, smart girl who is the foundation of our breeding program. We are especially grateful to Joanne Cava from Tanglewood Golden Retrievers who entrusted us with wonderful girl!
We are pround to announce that Tanglewood First Impression "Joy" at fifteen months old has passed her Delta Therapy  Certification. She received a Complex certification rating, allowing her to enter into any dog therapy situation. We are very proud of her!
